Ten trivial reasons I'm excited to give birth at home instead of in the hospital:
(Disclaimer: I am comparing these to my two previous hospital births, not all hospital births or hospital births in general.)
1. Not getting filthy dirty feet from walking on the hospital floors and not having to wear socks in order to avoid the dirty feet.
2. Not having to disconnect myself from monitors every time I have to use the bathroom, and
wheel the IV pole with me while trying to hold my gown shut in the back.
3. Even when I wasn't hooked up to any IV fluids I still had to have one in my hand, and it hurt. I'm looking forward to avoiding that pain and the swelling that comes along with it for days after. It stinks taking care of a baby when one of your hands can barely function.
4. Not having to waddle from triage to the delivery room (barefoot) in a revealing hospital gown with blankets randomly wrapped around me. Awkward. In fact let's add not having to wear a hospital gown period to this one... I get to wear whatever I want.
5. Not worrying if Tom is comfortable on the plastic couch, I know he'll be comfortable at home.
6. Being "allowed" to eat food if I'm hungry.
7. No interruptions from well-meaning nurses.
8. Sleeping in my own bed.
9. Not having to follow a nurse out to our car to check our car seat upon departure, while she walks way too fast for my "I just pushed a baby out of me" body to keep up with.
10. Having the same person there supporting me through labor and birth who I had spent my entire pregnancy getting to know and build a relationship with, aka my midwife.
As you can tell the above reasons are mostly for my own comfort, and definite perks, but I wouldn't call them deal breakers on my decision to birth at home.

Hey, I agree with every single one of these. But I'll add a few:
Not having to bear the ride to the hospital while in active labor.
Not having to fight tooth and nail to keep the nurses from doing stuff to my baby (because we delay/selectively vax, etc.)
Not having to ask for my baby every time they are "done" doing whatever random stuff they do to newborns in the nursery. Even with "rooming in," I had this problem.
I could probably think of more, but I'll stop. :)
Sounds great! I cant wait to hear how it goes. I am thinking of a birthing center when I have another baby, since Jude was hospital with epidural... I'm not ready to jump right to home birth (but I dream of it someday.)
I admire you! But I have to say, I'm so glad I never went to your hospital, and sad that you experienced some of those things :( Mark's always followed the baby right after birth, so I've never worried about that. My ob through the pregnancy's have always been the same at delivery, and it is nice to have that connection. And seriously, the nurses didn't push you out to the car in a wheelchair? They never let me walk out.
Adelina, I wouldn't say my hospital experiences were bad (except for the miscarriage one but that was in NM). My ob delivered both kids, he even drove back from Provo to deliver Clark when he found out I was in labor. But he's only there during the last part of it.
Wow, I have never been interested in home birth. Ever. But this actually made me consider it! For a short second. haha.
Home birth scares me. I've just seen to many problems with the babies in my family that I wouldn't dare not be right there. I LOVED my delivery! The absulte best part of being pregnant... not to mention I loved being doted upon there:) I didn't want to leave! Although two of my sisters have tried the home birth and they really enjoyed it. Its just best to do what your comfortable with. and be prayerful about it! Hope you love it! I'm excited to hear how it goes:)
Love it!!! It will be a wonderful experience. (I've never had a HB but I've attended quite a few of them!)
I'm thrilled you're taking the plunge! You are an incredibly strong woman and I pray that this experience will help convince you of that (it's always hardest to convince ourselves). My best advice (learned from my midwife) Trust your body...God will let you know exactly what you are supposed to do. He is very aware of you and your little one. Fear only makes you confused and it's harder to listen to God. If fear comes, recognize, feel it and let it go. Just my two cents...Hugs!
Yay home birth! I hope you have a beautiful birth experience!
That's awesome that you are doing a home birth this time. It'll be so nice to be in a comfortable place. I want to have a VBAC next time, but I'm too scared to not do it at the hospital if I end up having to have another C/S.
